peugeot 306 intermitant knocking from front of car?

hi,i have a 306 with intermittant knocking from the front end,does not do it all the time,seems to do it after a few miles, it seems to be on the drivers side front wheel ,i've just had the ball-joint replaced but still the knocking ,its a 99 v reg 1400 petrol
