mercedes sprinter 311 cdi.changed fuel filter and drained tank wont start?

put a electric fuel pump between the tank and filter if it sucks up fuel the in tank pump is rs

thanks for that mate.it has a low pressure pump that sits on the engine,it runs off the cam i think.im going to refill fuel filter and go again.i no once the fuel starts to move the van will start. hopefully

hi robert,not had much to do with these motors and dont know the layout of the engine whether there is a lift pump or hand primer or low pressure pump in tank incorporated in the fuel system but you didn`t say if you had manually filled the filter with fuel,doing this would certainly help,it sounds as if it needs all the help it can get to get fuel through the system again,have had problems with other motors starting and you have to watch and not run your pump dry for too long,ended up putting a direct feed onto the pump with a funnel and pipe onto inlet pipe on pump and this at least got the motor running and the pump lubricated,as soon as it starts re connect original piping and it should fire up with what fuel is there and help to draw fuel through the system again,good luck
