Replace fuel line - Craftsman Weed Wacker 358.977.101?

The fuel line has cracked and leaks . I tried to push a rubber tube over the original fuel hose as a sleeve-type fix but it won't work .

I believe that I have to R/R the original fuel tube ( clear plastic tubing ) which appears to be squeezed up into the gas tank at the source end and merely slips over a brass tube extending outward from the carb at the other end.
The carb end is an easy push-on fit .
The fuel tank end is a mystery.

How does the fuel line get up into the tank ? Is it merely forced ? Is there a filter inside the tank attached to the end of the feeder fuel line ?
