Mend Hoover 1100 Door

Hoover 1100 door lock and locking button unreliability?

My Hoover 1100 has developed a very annoying door lock and locking button unreliability symptom in that it doesn't always (now seldom) allow the unit to work as the door closed light doesn't go on. My son has found that kicking the lock makes it work! I'd rather find a solution. Any help available?
