Mend Candy Convex Oven Working Hot

Candy Convex oven grill not working?

The grill element of my Candy oven does not work when I switch it on with the normal switch.
However it gets hot when I connect the terminals directly to a mains socket.
And the element when disconnected gives 28 ohms resistance, which seems right for 2000W.
Do you have any idea where the problem might lie?
