I opened the door of my dishwasher and there was a loud bang. The door now falls open rather than opening gently. It is as if a spring has gone inside.

Easy, take off the side covers and repair the plastic retainers that have broken and released the springs. Took me 10 mins.

Hi Peter
The AHY8101 has a cable on either side (made of nylon type string) and the end pieces consist of a 'T' on one end and a loop through which the spring attaches on the other end. What usually happens is the loop breaks and the spring comes adrift. in order to repair it you will need to remove the dishwasher from the housing and remove both side panels. (the door cables come in packs of two so change both) one side the spring will fall out so check the other to see how they fit. If you loosen the worm drive screws at the top you can release the springs safely. When you have re-fitted the springs etc tighten the screws evenly to avoid too much tension on one side.
