zanussi aquacycle 1000?

The door solenoid is making a clicking noise but after 3 clicks it the starts the beeping noise off. The machine has water in it and wont move on to the drain cycle but instead does the above. I have taken the whole interlock mechanism out and played around with it and l have tried to fix it by making the contacts inside touch constantly thinking this will overide the switch and allow the cycle to continue. No joy though. Any ideas?
