hotpoint WD440 broken?

Does anyone know what is wrong with my WD440? During the washing cycle mainly on rinse it stops spinning fully and only goes a couple of inches each way. Then when it goes to spin dry, it starts like a badly driven car in first gear, with very loud clicking noise. Also the machine jumps all over the kitchen at that point. Eventually it manages to go to full spin and there is no problem afterwards. I checked the motor's carbon brushes and they seem ok. All other functions work ok. Thanks for any information.
