As a total novice here is my solution. Lincoln Appliance is spot on, but we had trouble getting the bottom panel off. Finally found that there is a screw on either side which you can only access by tipping the dishwasher back at about a 45 degree angle to get to the screws which are right underneath. You can't see them as they are up a plastic shaft. Hope that makes sense for the next person that has our problem!

Turn power off at wall. Remove lower service panel below the door. Remove the lower two screws holding the side panel on the side which has the broken spring. (Usually just one side breaks) Reach in with some long nose pliers & remove old spring then fit new spring. Check other side to see where it hooks on to.
