Why doesn't the second slot for RAM memory work in my Emachine W3107?

Had the same bought 2x2GB sticks for my lappy. It froze.
Turned out one was faulty. Try swapping the good one for the bad in slot 1. If it does not work thats the answer.

I had tried every which way of installing the two 1gb RAM. Tried installing both at same time; the system froze solid. Tried installing just 1 in the 2nd slot; system shuts down on it own. The only thing that worked is installing just 1 in the 1st slot. But I want to be able to have the 2nd RAM installed so I can use both 1gb=2gb total. The weird thing is this > the bios recognized that both sticks of RAM were in, but the system shut down. HOW or WHY is the system not excepting the 2nd RAM in the 2nd slot??

I bought the 2 sticks of 1gb RAM from TigerDirect.com. I did not buy them at a store.

take your tower and the 2 memory ram sticks to were you brought it from ask them to install it with you present. i did this on mine ,( he remembered serving me the ram ) 1 memory stick of the 2 was faulty even through it came out of a sealed packet. my system booted 1 time with another memory stick in
