washer not spinning or emptying water door locked?

My hoover quattro 1300 washer dryer decided to hold my clothes hostage. Initially I ran a spin cyle but although it turned it did not spin. So I unplugged, took the top off and manully released the door to find that the water had not drained. Any troubleshooting suggestions please!!!
