Mend Hoover U3360 Become Very Noisy

hoover has become very noisy, how can i fix?

Hoover u3360 has become very noisy.
i believed it to be because of a loose drive belt catching somewhere, but a new belt didnt solve this.
if i remove belt then no noise and engine sounds 'normal' so i may still be 'on the right track'.
Can this noise problem be fixed, please?

With the top cover off it's even noisier.
I could not hear my wife's screaming at me to shut it off!
That's when I smelled the blue smoke.
I could not turn it back on to show her because she had
'that' look.
I'll get a new quiet vacuum later.

maybe the brushroll bearings Paul. take end caps off and look for any damage. should be very smooth.
