my hp pavilon when turn on comes up no operating system ?

As a novice , then it won`t be too easy as you will only be poking in the dark...especially if the hard drive is not the problem.

You will have to deal with this problem one step at a time.
but first you will have to gather information so that you understand what you are doing (there is no easy , short cut answer !)

Google search for setting up the BIOS boot sequence, booting from a CD , booting into SAFE mode and see what is suggested

The answers are out there but will be much too involved to try and explain here.

how could i check if it is the hard drive ????
i brought the laptop at a auction havent got instructions or anything and im a complete novice with computers ant answers in english please step by step many thanks
