If your laptop has an ethernet port, connect directly to your router using cable, that way you can then get on the net, go to the compaq/HP site and download the relevant drivers..

Perhaps you might get the drivers using a working machine - load them onto a memory stick and walk the stick over to the target laptop and install from there...
