Mend Nintendo DS Plug Light Switch

what is wrong with my ds?

When I plug in the charger for my ds the red light comes on then goes off within 5 minutes - nothing happens on the screens. When you switch the power switch on the green light comes on then goes straight back off again - again nothing happens on the screens. Can anyone help?
