I an not an electrician but a physics/ electronics teacher. A word of caution ... never connect a cable which is marked as live to one which is marked as neutral - either you later or the next person will be in danger.
It has been suggested to me by an electrician that adding a live coloured sleeve to both ends of a neautral coloured wire might be the best thing to do before proceeding in this situation as outlined.

best wishes Nyge

the spare 'neutral' is probably the live switch wire from the wall switch. with the mains off (and 'off' proven) disconnect the two 'lives' from your light and just connect them together in a screwed connector block and tape them up. connect the spare 'neutral' to the live of your light. switch on at the mains and the light should operate from the wall switch. P.S. ensure to make the earth connections good if the fitting requires it. v. important for safety. good luck
