Mend Volkswagen Polo Stopped Working Morning

The internal fans have stopped working? ?

The internal fans of my VW Polo stopped working this morning. There is still heat from the heater but it just drifts through, rather than the fans pushing it through. There was a funny smell on the way home last night from the fans. What could be the problem?
