how can i fix it?

my son has just called after arriving at work this morning advising his windscreen wipers have stopped working and are sitting in the middle of his windscreen,. when he tries to restart them there is no movement at all. anybody any ideas on how to get them working to get home. the vehicle is a vauxhall corsa sxi 3 door 1.2(i think).
