Re last question:
I have checked and cleaned out the heat exchanger and flue and all seems to be clear. Now I find that with the bioler internal cover off, the gas valve turns off after a short time. I have changed the thermocouple, and metered out for continunity the over temperature stat. and all seems ok. I have tried the old thermocouple with the interruptor linked out and the boiler seems to run ok for a while before I turned it off incase there is some other problen that the system safety is cutting out on. Please can someone give me some suggestions. This is a balanced flue boiler with out any fan assist.

I had an engineer have a look today and he found that the thermocouple was not in the pilot flame correctly, Because the Jet was partially blocked. This was cleaned and hey presto I now have a warm house again.

i had a similar problem, i replaced the gas valve and it still failed so i tailored a universal thermocouple to fit the new gas valve and it worked, im sure pureists out there are frowning , but my wife was delighted, its worked well ever since. a service enginer pursuaded me to let him put a proper thermocouple with an interuptor in and we had the same problem, he wasnt happy to leave my remedy and made me sign a disclaiming form but it works, id be gratefull for any advice

Boiler is room sealed appliance not designed to work with the cover off suspect over heat stat and or connections suspect if tested ok when bridged out
Failing that call a service engineer for service check

Makes sure the screwed connections onto the the thermocouple are clean and tight, sometime wise to use a file to ensure a good clean connection
