Hotpoint wm63 problem?

Hi, I have a hotpoint wm63 which when put on the 'E' cycle sticks half way through the cycle and lets a lot of water go to waste unless I stop it. I move the dial on a little further to encourage it but it sticks again. Then I move it on to the spin cycle and it stcks there too. I eventually move it right a round to the next available spin cycle and it works...
Has anyone experienced this problem or have a known cure without having to purchase a new washing machine?
