Mend Volkswagen Passat 52 Passenger Side Window

How do I fit electric windows vw passat?

My pfront passenger side electric window has stopped working on my 52 passat. I hear a grinding noise and sounds like there's a smashed plate down there(!) how do I repair this? Is it easier to replace the whole mechanism?
