How do I get my hitachi dvd remote to work on my hitachi tv?

Hello all,

I have an Hitachi DV-DS253E DVD recorder and an Hitachi HD32-01 LCD Tv. My instruction manual for the DVD recorder says I can program the remote control to operate my Tv,I have tried all the codes,but only one works on the Tv and I can only change channel using the channel up/down button.

Does anybody know of a code that can make use of the 0-9 buttons on the DVD remote to operate the Tv,or if I have done something wrong? I have even got an instruction manual from the internet,but it's no different from the one that came with my DVD recorder.
