Light fitting installation?

I am trying to install a light fitting on the ceiling (B&Q). The ceiling rose has 6 wires which I now understand (thanks to all the helpful replies on this forum). The fitting has 2 connector blocks, one of which has the live and neutral wires for the fitting. The other block has 4 holes in it for the loop circuit to go straight through without connecting with the fitting at all. My question is, this does not appear to make sense because either the switch is excluded from the circuit or the main (live) connection is excluded (!). If question lacks detail, please do feel to comment. Any help is most welcome.

If using the ceiling rose, take the fitting connector off,and put fitting neutral wire into ceiling rose neutral, and the other wire ie switch wire into the ceiling rose connector which has one wire in it.
The ceiling rose wiring normally looks like this.
2 blacks(neutrals) 3 reds(lives) 1 black,or 1 red,or 1yellow(switch wire). If your taking the ceiling rose off connect the neutrals of the ceiling rose to neutral of fitting, the switch wire to the single wire of the ceiling rose and the 3 reds into the 4 hole connector.Good tip mark the switch wire if its black so you don,t mix it up with the neutrals, and the same if its red so you don,t mix it up with the other reds.

Question OK for detail
Clarity could be a little better...

Live goes to the switch and switched live comes back from it - this is why 4 terminal connections are needed

Live - Neutral - Earth - Switched Live

The switch gets permanent live but the new lamp only gets switched live - so you can control it on and off.
