car heater not working?

i have a renault laguna, 96 and the heating has stopped working (before the snow) im useless without it as more ice inside then out at the moment. been told it could be anything from fuse to whole thing 100-300 pds although no one has actually looked at it yet.

any ideas def cant drive at the moment and on benefits so cant afford expensive repairs.
