Hotpoint VTD00 - Drum only spinning one way?

Hi...just replaced the belt on dryer..put it back together & tested. Heats up & spins ok but in one direction only- its supposed to go into reverse after a short time but it just stops ! If you unplug & try again ...same thing ! Any ideas appreciated !!!
