Mend Black and Decker Check Thermostat Heating

How can I open my iron without breaking the plastic parts?

I want to check the thermostat and heating coil in my iron. I removed all the screws in the back but I can't lift off the front part of the iron (Black and Decker).I'm afraid of breaking the plastic.
Any ideas?

Buy a new iron - I gave up trying to mend irons many years ago - they design and make them to be impossible to repair these days - probably a safety thing and probably very good for the sale of new irons.
