amstrad e mailers?

Is there any way at all that i can use these so called emailers purely as telephones only. ?
i.e. 2 b used as any other normal phones when i want to make a call and by passing any email operation deemed by so many people as a total rip off very much so including myself.
After all i did initially buy this appliance because of the phone facilities as portrayed and not ewanting to use the email options at all .
