what does the f 9 fault mean on the glow worm 30cx boiler?

Don't know, but had an F9 fault on a 30CX boiler last year, when the boiler was just over a year old, and had to have the entire boiler replaced! The new boiler has just developed an F9 fault that does not go away no matter how many resets I do, so I've got Glow Worm coming out again this week. So, two failures in two years on two separate boilers. A quality product? I don't think so!

and have a look, gives all fault codes, most of the faults listed will need a plumber to correct.
