firstly have you actually held each wheel off the floor and seen if the wheels spins reasonably freely the rear one will have some drag through the transmission but should still spin ok the front could well have suffered from the road salt its a killer to all metal and will corrode the inside of the caliper behind the dust and piston seals which in turn press's the seals onto the piston and will stop it from moving back slightly when the brake is released.the sliders can also suffer from corrosion and stop the caliper moving sideways freely.if in doubt of either of the above just undo you caliper swing it out of the way and see if the wheel spins ok afterwards if it is hard to turn.
it could also have waterlogged the air filter or even have drawn so snow or water into the carb try draining the carb by undoing the small screw on the float bowl for a few seconds and make sure the air filter is dry and clean.let me know what you find

I have filled up with petrol and put toped the oil up but when i set off this morning it would not go above 30mph as if the brake was on and there is a burning smell coming from the back wheel. not sure what it could be and ended up cathcing the bus for work and was late.

I will fill it up later with petrol and yes the whell goes aound freeley but i will try it again later, so your saying if its low on petrol it can reduce the power? and i will check the oil later as well thank you and i will report back 2moz

Hi there.
Could be clutch
could be brakes seized on or could be belt problems.
Try these things.
Get off bike get put on stand and with a mate to help you does each wheel spin freely when off the road.
If they do then again on stand lift back wheel off road and start and does the back wheel go round fast when you rev it? Be careful you dont rev it too hard and it flies off the stand.
Does it rev freely when your riding or is it sputtering and feels like it runs out of petrol?
Have a good loom round the bike and ensure nothing is catching on wheel etc.
Check you oil and tyre pressures and also check you have enough petrol and if you have a petrol tap make sure on. Sounds obvious but it can happen.

Post back a reply when you have done above some people on here will help. Good luck.

I gave up bikes in 1968 and have not kept up with the technology but lots of Revs and No power to the back wheel smells like a problem with the clutch to me.

Worse going up a slope probably - were you slipping the clutch riding through the snow to control your speed?
