Many thanks for your detailed instructions, Dave. I used circlip pliers to get the silly screws out, and being away from home, sawed some slots in them and re-used them. Sorry I can't help with the wiring, but I guess you've either found out or lost interest by now. My problem was the switch, so I didn't push my luck with delving further! Couldn't see any way of getting the switch apart, and it worked intermittently. It improved with a dose of WD40, so I'm hoping for the best.

Take off the dust bag cover. Pull off the boost slider knob. Carefully prise off the thin metal plate with a small flat blade screwdriver. Two screws now visible. Grip the head of the screw with fine point pliers and unscrew.Get 2 correct length replacement self-tapping screws with philips heads and bin the electrolux ones. Remove the motor filter cover. Remove the two screws at the rear and prise off the plastic shroud which the power cord runs through. Pull the on/off and power cord cover plates up and toward each other. They hinge at the top with one lug on each cover. (Small spring under each one so be careful) Remove the remaining five screws on the motor cover. Lift off the motor cover carefully and don't disturb the power cord recoil mechanism. I did and nearly took the tips of my fingers off ! There is a spring between the inside of the cover and the top of the motor so again be careful. Use masking or insulating tape or something to hold the power cord recoil mechanism in place. Make a note of where the wires go to and from as certainly on our machine they are all brown apart from one red one! Lift back the foam, mark the motor and the plastic body casing with felt pen so the motor goes back in the correct position. The inside of the motor cover has segments in the plastic which will only allow the motor and cover to marry up in one position (it won't screw back down flush with the body if you get it out of alignment) The motor will lift straight out. Hold the infamous recoil down whilst pulling the motor up. P.S let me know where the wires go as I lost my list and now have a pile of brown wires!!!
