Any work carried out on a gas appliance - cooker, fire, boiler etc. can only legally be done by an appliance engineer who holds the neccessary gas certificates for that type of appliance and for that type of gas (Calor, North sea etc). You should not attempt to do any such work yourself. If a problem occurs (fire, explosion etc.), any insurances you hold (such as household, accident) will become invalid and you could be prosecuted.
