peugeot 306 hdi immobliser?

hello, i've got a 'v' reg 306 hdi with both keys yet the car wont start. I've been told there is some sort of electronic aerial around the ignition barrel and this isn't recognising the key. Does this sound about right and is there a cheap fix ? Thanks, chris.
