Toshiba satellite pro A200 laptop not turning on?

Suddenly my laptop does not power on at all or charging, no lights of any kind showing. worked ok last night. tried removing battery then re-inserting few times but nothing. how can i make some basic checks before going to someone else and ending up paying if its something minor.
