My Miele Premier dishwasher won't heat?

It still washes everything but in cold water & the dishes are left damp at the end. Any ideas please?

7 years after the original post I found my G692 SC developed a fault which stopped the machine in mid cycle and showed a light sequence which required a service engineer. After lots of searching Forums and seeking advice from so called qualified engineers wanting lots of money to fix it. All claimed certain parts needed changing.
I decided to take the side casing off myself and found that the inline element has 2 sensors on the side. Would you believe that they had little red reset buttons that I pressed and my machine is now working as it should?
RESET BUTTON. TRADE CON ALERT!

could have been blocked sprayarm jets causing the thermostat to trip, miele will do an estimate call if required. sounds like mike knows alot about miele, is that mike french?

Carol, hope you are still there...
That's why it's important to give the both make and model number (especially the model). I wasn't aware your machine was a G600 type. I just ran up a drawing on the G640. It has a conventional heating element in the bottom of the compartment...not an inline heater (+ 2 thermostats) in the side like newer models. It is not a huge undertaking the change this! You would have disconnect the plug & pipes, pull out the machine out & turn it on it's back. Then remove the bottom plate (4 screws). This gives you access to the inner components, amongst which the heater terminals & gasket (the mounting rails inside the compartment can be reused. It would be worthwhile checking the resistance of the old element before removing. It should have a value of around 20 ohms, yours will probably show infinity if it has failed.
The heater is 2.7kW/230v & costs 98 Euros here. It has p/n 4266055 (only available from Miele). What's that...about 96 pounds or so? If you have a handyman in the family who could help you it wouldn't take more than a couple of hours to replace. I am against Miele protectionism but goodness they make great machines, far too good to scrap at 6 years old. I have seen these machines 14-15 years old & still going strong. Its worth a go. I can help you with technical info if you let me know where to send it.

We have phoned Miele today & apparently our model G640 doesn't have any thermostats so they reckon that it is the heater element. They are surprised that it is running the whole cycle with this fault. They charge £92 call out & first hour labour. The element costs £100 on top! As the machine is 6 years old, we have decided to put that money towards a new dishwasher. Thanks for all your help Mike - just thought you'd like to know the end result!

Carol, You would need to dismantle one side of the machine to get access to the inline heater. You would also need a multimeter to check the thermostats & heater element. If somone there has an electrical background...then yes it is possible. But if in doubt leave it to a qualified technician. Electricity can be VERY unforgiving! Should you require further information please post the model number.

Thanks Mike. Is replacing the thermostat a DIY job or do we need an engineer?
Many thanks

NTC means "Negative Temperature Coefficient" Thermistor, (obviously shortened to NTC). In other words it is a temperature sensor used to monitor water temp. Your problem is likely due to a faulty thermostat rather than an NTC. But in some cases it can also be attributed to a faulty heater relay or electronic control module. Knowing Miele reliability I would suspect thermostat failure before anything else. Miele heaters/heater relays rarely malfunction & they have extermely reliable electronic modules. There are normally 2 thermostats mounted on the heater unit. My guess is that one of these has decided to quit.

Thanks for that but what is an NTC please?

Heating elements rarely fail on Miele machines. Thermostats & NTC's do. Look in that direction.
