The light coming on means the cars computer has detected a faulty or out-of-range sensor or actuator. This will store a fault code in the cars memory.
You need to get the car plugged in to a diagnostic reader to retrieve this code. Most workshops/garages have this equipment, and will be much cheaper than a Vauxhall dealer.
Does it re-start OK when it has cooled down again? If so I suspect the code will be p0335, crank sensor.
If it is that, it's an easy DIY job to fit a new crank sensor, one electrical plug and one bolt. Just make sure you route the wire correctly or it will burn on the exhaust. Buy good quality, I have found auction site tat is rarely reliable.
Around £30 for a code read, £25/30 for the CK sensor, £20 to have it fitted. They might knock off the cost of the code read if you give them the job to supply and fit any parts.
