how do i clean sponge air filter on murry 3.5 hp push mower?

murry has a sponge air filter on 3.5.hp engine would like to clean it

wash it out with ot soapy water and let it dry then add a few drops of oil (do not ring it out) and massage the oil in gently

You take like a cleaner or other to clean it ...can clean it with gas and ring it out and let dry .....put some oil drops on it and rub it in and then install it ...
