peugeot 206 Automatic Gearbox problem ?

My peugeot 206 W'reg Auto, I was driving the car normaly and suddenly the gearbox 'S', 'Winter' lights started flashing crazy on dashboard and the car lost power, I stopped the car turn the engine OFF for few seconds and started it again... it was fine.

Could anyone please advise what could have caused it to happen and what sort of problem I'm looking at..

Check the engine oil
If less then also buzing once or more time
All engine should start first and after two minutes start and then shutdown
Check the gage
Its show 95% good

Ok, the main cause of the 206 automatic problems comes from 1 or both electric solenoid valves becoming gunked up with metalic sludge, (the solenoids generate a magnetic field which attracts this sludge because they are both submerged in the gearbox oil).
My solution which is still effective three years later, was to drain & flush the autobox oil, fill with fresh oil. Run engine for 30mins. Make all the selections possible with the gearbox. Drain oil again and fill with new oil.
I then obtained an old 3.5" computer hard drive and removed the very powerful magnets from within. Using one magnet I attached it using epoxy resin to the lower external casing of the gearbox near the drain plug. (the drain plug itself has a magnetic collector but is no where strong enough for the job). This now creates a powerful and wide magnetic field near the sump plug which will collect and hold any ferrous particles before they reach the valves.
Like I say, it has worked perfectly for me ever since and cost me about £5 for the hard drive.

Hi everybody!

I had the same problem. Car used to move with jump, and never change to 4rd gear. Always it happend with lights S and W flashed. So, i went to service station and they advised to me to replace pressure hydro block. I paid. Now i drive car, i don`t have early problems with abrupt switching gear, but sometimes i`m not shure that it was right decision, because sometime gearbox work not ordinary. And also i have vibration, when i stay motionless with D selector and hold down brake pedal. I can`t understand: Why do PEUGEOT do nothing with a lot of complains about work of automatic gearbox? Should i change pressure hydro block every time? May be they produce some kit to dispose this problem?

The Peugot mechanic told the problem is due to soleniods in the gear box, need to replace them.

I have the same problem, but not because of the lever position, and when the automatic gear oil is warm this problem disappeared (mostly, but I feel it's not normal) , but sometimes 3rd (gear) stuck on, and never go to 4th, till more than 4000rpm without kickdown, I called the service and Mech. told me, I should change the "pressures" of gear, I don't know them, but I will see

If it is the switch out of adjustment, as in the other post, verify by gently moving the shifter away from its natural posistion. The lights should stop flashing without restarting. If the lights only stop after starting you WILL need to scan for codes.

I'm facing similar problem that during driving in the morning time, suddenly snow and sports lights flashed and gear shakes and don't go from driving to manual even.

What is reason?

This has happened to me too - dont worry - believe it or not its the position of your auto-selector that causes the problem. Normally this fault indication means as the handbook puts it "an incident in the auto transmission". As you say, it re-set when you turned the car off - if there was a fault it would go into limp home mode and contiue to warn you. The first time it happened to me I was scared (expense!!!), the "fault", is actually you being a little too gentle with the lever!

Although in "Drive" the position switch isnt quite engaged and the electronics dont know whats going on so they panic - meanwhile the car drives perfectly normally (except the warning turns you grey). Yours went into limp home mode. It can actually be "made" to show this fault by slowly and very carefully moving from Park into Drive untill the lights alternately flash!

As you know there is no detent lock on this selector, it is released from Park by the footbrake (more usually the detent is locked by the footbrake). However, I would have the transmission fluid level checked (or have it changed), as it may not have been done since the car was new, and its important that it is changed about every three to four years.

Incidentally, you may sometimes have the car stall for no reason when in reverse - again dont panic as I did, its caused by a cable that comes loose - once fixed its done for good, no more probs. Mine was a 206 LX 1.4 Auto. Hope this helps - obviously have it checked, but once I realised what I'd done, I was a little more positive in how I moved the selector and never had it happen again. Its down to the way the selector operates - smooth with small gaps between positions, like the gateless move from N to D and back, more of a little movement than an actual feeling of different positions. Whereas the Fords Ive driven "Click" into every position. Dont be rough, just when you select, move the lever firmly and until it actually stops moving in that selected position if that makes sense, and you feel the resistance in the lever.

Get the codes read with a scanner.Commonest fault pressure regulation, confirm with scanner. Take a look at live data particularly commanded pressure AND actual pressure. Snap On will only see actual pressure, unless latest software now covers this. Check out 'fedauto.co.uk' for auto specialist.
