clean the carb?

I have a craftsman 38in mower. its 12hp. it was starting but i kept starting it like 4 times and then it stoped starting. the batt. is dead and i was charging it for 1 hr. then i jumped it w/ car and it just keeps turning never starts. maybe dirty carb. if it is how could i clean it
