Mend Haynes Start Help Head

I cannot start the engine on my 1997 frontera please help?

I have changed head gasket and followed procedures layed out in haynes manual but after reconnecting battery the car will not start. I have also noticed a wire on the air filter sensor is damaged is this possibly affecting ignition.
