Thanks so much for all the helpful posts. My Amish Heat Surge heater (2008 model w/o reset button) began blowing ONLY cold air several months after I bought it ($400+). Blower, flames still worked. I let it sit in my garage for a couple of years until a couple of months ago when I started 'googling' what could possibly be wrong. Thankfully I found this forum and read all the previous posts.
I took the heater out thru the front of the frame (unplugged), and after removing a few screws, lifted off the top of the heater. I unhooked each end of the thermal cutoff fuse (small silver cylinder w/ pointy end on the right) which was pointing to the more rectangular fuse. None of the Radio Shacks I went into or called in my area had them or sold them. I ordered them online from Goodman's.net in Hiahleah Florida. I ordered ten (figured this would happen again), for $10.00 plus s/h for total of $13.48. The invoice lists the item # as: TH-TF110C, made by Thermodisc. You can google "G4A01110C thermal cut off fuse" as they are made by different companies. I believe the manufacturer of the original TCO fuse in my heater was MicroTemp (could only read w/ magnifying glass). This particular TCO fuse is activated and I'm guessing blows, every time the heating element reaches 110 degrees celcius as a safety backup, which then renders the whole unit useless as far as heating.
I received my fuses in about a week. I did not solder or use alligator clips, I simply cut off the excess wiring at both ends and bent the wires so that they fit down into the rivet holes as someone else had suggested. I plugged the heater in, pushed the ON button, then the heater button on LOW. It blew cold air for a few seconds, then I heard a small clicking sound and warm air began to flow... Voila!
Again many thanks to all of you pioneers who have gone before me and conquered Heat Surge!
ps: I'm a girl. Well, 53 yo, so if I can do it anyone can.
