y is my clutch very heavy and difficult to change gear?

hi i am having great difficulty changing gear in my 1994 micra ,the clutch is very heavy and its very very difficult to change gear does anyone know y this is and how to fix it

thanks for the info and yes it was sudden but the clutch was very heavy before, do you still think its sticky cable if so what can i do now
