Mend Homelite Champion 17 Minute Working Start

How can I fix my Homelite Champion 17" Petrol Hedge Trimmer?

One minute it was working beautifully - the next I couldn't start it. The pull cord has no resistance to it (although it returns OK) and hence doesn't turn over the engine for starting. What can I co?
