Mend Water Cistern Level

How to stop water in cistern new float valve bottom entry?

Put in new flapper, now new float valve bottom entry, but float stops and the water level rises very slowly. Is the water supposed to stop once the float has stopped?

I think you're on the ball and you've sorted this, so well done - but keep an eye on things! Its not recommended to cut the plastic pipe to the flapper in situ, but it can be done with a junior hacksaw if you don't have the correct cutter...you must avoid stressing the thing and causing leaking at the bottom - thats a real bore!

Thanks for that, didn't know about having to cut down the outlet pipe! one good thing hopefully is working fingers crossed i flushed through the valve by taking head off and this seems to have worked, mind you i have had enough now as the cisterns been off three times! so can i cut the outlet pipe off without taking it out?

To be truthfull, the fluidmaster valves are a pain....if I remember correctly, the float is adjusted by a plastic vertical screw - the top of which easily detatches from the plastic body? A much better one is one made by Torbeck - dead simple and almost foolproof. Mind you, your flush mechanism should allow water to flow down into the loo bowl, rather than through the flush handle! The tube leading upwards from the flapper valve is cut to length to suit the level of water in the cistern if its installed correctly.

still struggling, it is a fluidmaster, and water still keeps comming over the float at highest level then heads for the flush handle hole so am having to keep an eye on it! the outlet pipe is a tad higher than the flush handle, not very good!

The water will stop once the float has 'floated' to its highest position. This will be adjustable, depending on the make and some work much better than others! There could be a mark on the cistern inside to show you where the correct level should be.
