my laptop wont power up?

My acer extensa laptop is having powering up problems. If i press restart while laptop is on , it restarts ok. If i put it to sleep , it will restart ok, But if i put itinto hibernate or close down, i have to wait hours before i can switch it on again... I would appreciate any help
