Mend Peugeot 307 Warning Engine Sensor

307 high temperature warning?

where is the engine cooling system temp sensor located on adeisel 307, From cold after about 2 miles the temp gauge goes off scale with associated warnings for about 20 secs and then returns to normal

on right hand side of engine on side of cylinder head. sensor is hidden by air filter pipes which will have to be removed to see sensor. has a green plug going to it.
