how can i fix cigarette lighter socket on 04 vw golf ?

this won't help u kerry, but i'm havin the same problem, although my lighter was working until my wife managed to drop a pound coin in it and it hasn't worked since. i had a hunt round and have found out that the lighter seems to be on the same fuse as the radio and my radio stills works, so i presume thats not the problem. (haynes manual says its fuse 22 on the board, 10amps) looks like i may have to change the housing.
maybe a wire has come off one of the terminals on your unit.
if i find anything else out i'll let you know.
