Mend Renault Megane 02

renault megane 02, cigarette lighter not working?

I have been plugging my sat nav in and last week the socket came apart in the lighter. Now the cigarette lighter doesn't have any power going into it. Probably a fuse problem but which one?

I had the same problem on my 2005 Megane - front and rear screen washes not working, radio turning off after 20 mins, cigarette lighter not working, and AC light not coming on. After reading this thread I went to Halfords, bought a 15a fuse and they changed it for me for three quid!

Cigarette lighter stopped working after electric tyre pump cut out.

Checked appropriately marked fuse but this was o.k.

following reference to this sit, checked the bottom 15 amp fuse of the triangular group of three and, lo and behold, having replaced it, everything is working great.

Saved me a very expensive trip to the Renault main dealership which would have cost and arm and a leg. Many thanx to the contributors for this.

Bang on. Changed the radio fuse (second one down on my Megane 1.9DCi 54 plate) and the screen wash, ciggy lighter, dash LEDs for AC and rear demist all worked again. AND the radio started to work properly, ie not turning off every so often. Strange that the radio fuse should be labelled in such a way, when it clealry has power to it without the fuse intact.

I have the same problem in a Renault Clio Expression 2004. My windscreen washer was the first to go, then the radio started randomly switching off after 20-30 minutes like you describe and then the cigarette lighter stopped working. So does anyone know how to access the fuses in the Clio? I have no idea as I've never done car work in my life. Maybe I should take it to the mechanic.

the fuse you want is a blue 15 the one to replace is the radio fuse.
there are 3 blue fuses arranged in an upside down triangle, the one to change is the lowest one.

i hope this helps

I have a simmilar issue, the radio is going off on a timer of about 30 minutes, and the cigarette lighter plug has stopped working.

I have checked the fuse, and the one for the radio is blown, 15amp, so replaced that, with a spare 15amp, and the cigarette lighter plug is still not working, not had the car switched on long enough yet to see if the timer works on the radio etc.

Any ideas?

I am looking at a Kangoo van 2002 1.2 and to get at the back of the lighter it looks like the whole of the dash has to come forward, it is all one moulding!

05 megane 1.5dci -Similar issue to some of the above. assumed i had blown a fuse when trying to clean out lighter (as my phone charger wasn't working) so now lights for a/c and rear demister don't work, head lights are being somewhat temperamental, and same issue with radio - the radio also turns itself off randomly (after makinga beeping noise). Has anyone else had these issues? And was it a simple case of replacing the fuse to rectify?

2004 Renault Megane Sport Tourer Dynamique 1.5 dCi - This is the remedy for faulty lighter, washers, radio etc, THANK YOU. Please note: the diagram in my car is upside down! I tried changing the faulty 15A fuse as per diagram, and had no result, so I check the third fuse from the top and that was the fuse blown. Thank you. Saved a garage visit.

Vehicle - 2005, right-hand drive, Renault Mégane tourer.

Symptoms - Front and rear windscreen washes not working. No power to cigarette lighter socket. Radio switches off after about 20 minutes and/or remains on when getting out of vehicle.

Problem – One 15A fuse blown.

Solution – Open glove box and fuse box cover on upper left-hand side. There should be a small orange plastic fuse extractor tweezers mounted on a spigot amongst the fuses, spare fuses and a schematic layout diagram on the inside cover. Referring to the diagram and using the tweezers replace the small blue 15A fuse that corresponds to a pictogram of a car radio.

N.B. The tweezers and spare fuses come supplied with the vehicle from new but may not be present on older vehicles. The fuse layout diagram bears no obvious resemblance to what components this fuse covers.

I agree with the comments about the radio working
with the fuse blown I have a Renault Megane 1.4
My ciggy lighter didn't work so changed the fuse with new and as if by magic it does work. I recommend this course of action

yep - had exactly the same prob - cig lighter not working, radio switching itself off after 20 mins and not going off when door opens as you get out plus no screen wash - looked at fuse diagram but cig lighter one didnt exist where it should have been. looked at articles on here and simply changed radio 15 amp fuse and hey presto all now working perfectly ! dead easy, a 2 min job !. Reason I didnt try that earlier was radio working - it obviously still works even when its fuse has blown - strange but true ! good luck.

Can I ask for clarification on this problem......I have just bought a Renault Megane 55 plate and the cigarette lighter does not work for my satnav. My partner checked all the fuses last night and all seemed ok. This morning, the radio wasn't on when I turned the car on, I had to do it manually. It switched itself off midway through journey so turned it back on. When I turned the car off and opened the door the radio was still on, when normally it turns off, I had to switch it off manually. What is the problem with both? Thank you, Becca

Thanks for the answers above. I've just had the identical issue with my 07 plate Renault Megane GT 150dci. Was using an electric tyre pump in the cigarette lighter. It went off mid point. Cigarette lighter wasn't working, same issues as mentioned in the other mails about radio not going off, washer pumps not working, aircon not working, etc. I took out and tested the radio 15a blade fuse, it had blown, replaced it with a spare which is in the fuse box and all working ok again.

I am certain that he problem is now fixed Nicola but for future users: The radio will still work even if the cig lighter doesnt but you will have to turn it on and off all the time. The radio is fused with the cig lighter on the ignition key

I have a renault megane scenic 52, the cigarette lighter sockets (both front and back) dont work. Ive looked for the fuse, but in the manual it says its the same fuse as the radio. The radio works fine, so it cant be the fuse.. any suggestions? i kind of rely on it for the dvd player with 3 year old twins in the back! (not good on a long journey with them fighting LOL)

Cheers Bradley,
I looked at the fuses and the radio one had blown.
When changed the lighter started working again

Hi stuart the problem may be fuse related. Your fuse box should be located underneath the drivers air vent. Does your owners manual show any info on the fuses? is there a diagram.

Does the cigerette plug look OK? Is there a fuse in the satnav? try the normal car cigerette lighter. I take my astray out when I plug my natnav in. To remove the ashtray housing there should be two torex screws. Remove the two torex screws and you can pull the ashtray housing forward and out and you can see the connector that plugs into the cigerette lighter connector. Check the connection threre. Going back to fuses. Visually check the fuses. They are mainly transparent. I have known to blow the cigerette lighter before with the nat nav by not having it plug in properly. Hope this helps!
