hi all can you help

buying a trasit van the one i looked at has 74000 miles on clock in great condition but it has a funny sound in the engine .when i looked .it was the fan belt when engine is running it squieks when the man sprayed some water over the belt it stoped till it went dry agian.He said it needs a new belt is thi right

what i do is,rub a bit of chalk on the belt and it stops it for yonks.

Either a new belt or tensioner for the belt ...also alignment of pulleys could be at fault
