Mend Craftsman 917.387360 Lawn Mower Repair Engine

Craftsman Eager 917. 387360 Cord?

I have a craftsman lawn mower and the cord is really hard to pull and will not pull back unless you fidget with it. This doesn't help because you have to pull it at one time to start it. I open the center piece on top where the string is winding and a small piece of metal fell out and apparently a spring that goes in the wheel inside, any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
