Mend Sunbeam Radiant Control Toaster

how can i fix my toaster?

It is a Sunbeam Radiant Control. When I plug it in, the toast holder shelf automatically drops, as if there were a piece of toast on it. It will turn itself off, and automatically restart the toasting coils. This happens no matter which position the toast light/dark control is in.
